Distortion 2024 is coming back to Nørrerbro
Distortion returns to Nørrebro in 2024 for the first time in 5 years. Distortion 2024 Nørrebro will cover some of its well-known locations, such as Sankt Hans Torv, Dronning Louises Bro and along Assistens Kirkegården’s yellow wall when cozy little ones street party scenes with music, dance, food and art spread across the district’s iconic scenography. Last night, the Technical and Environmental Committee in the Municipality of Copenhagen dealt with the annual festival application and gave the green light for Distortion to return to Nørrebro in 2024. Distortion’s new concept ActionHygge guarantees cultural versatility and offers cozy and festive activities with dance ensembles, skating competitions, street sports and party for tweens.
Activities that are all part of the free street party. As something new, Rantzausgade and Hans Tavsens Park will also be part of Distortion’s city map anno 2024, and the area at Den Rode Plads and Superkilen is transformed into a large Distortion X- area where the biggest artists and music scenes are gathered in enclosed music zones with entrance fees.
In Hans Tavsens Park, there will be real family fun in the form of Child Distortion and Dog Distortion. A huge dance competition is held on Sankt Hans Torv, and along the yellow wall on Nørrebrogade covers the festival leading up to Nørrebro’s longest long table dinner. While the big ones music stages with pop stars, techno and hip-hop are held inside the enclosed Distortion X-areas in Rådhuspladsen and Den Rode Plads.
Nørrebro is of course an arch-Copenhagen neighborhood that has remained exciting throughout decades, thanks to its mix of youth, rowdy workers, big-city vegans and authentic shawarma bars. A real metropolitan quarter, which plays a decisive role in Copenhagen’s international scene identity. We are very much looking forward to returning! says Thomas Fleurquin, founder of Distortion.
In Copenhagen municipality’s evaluation of Distortion 2023, the festival was praised for its cleaning efforts and a marked decrease in noise complaints. The new music zones in Distortion X create air for the free street party to breathe. We look forward to to show what Distortion at Nørrebro is now. Copenhagen’s folk festival has regained its original form charming ineffability in a quieter setting when we return home to Nørrebro on Thursday 30 May 2024, says Thomas Fleurquin.
Distortion 2024 will be held from May 29 to June 2, 2024.
On Wednesday 29 May there will be Distortion X at the Town Hall Square, and on Thursday 30 May a completely new area for Distortion X Nørrebro on Den Røde Plads and Superkilen. This is also where the festival returns back to Nørrebro Gadefest, which is still free for everyone.
