Bicep collaborate with Arctic Indigenous artists on ‘TAKKUUK’ soundtrack
Bicep collaborate for their forthcoming release ‘TAKKUUK’ with indigenous artists from across the Arctic region that forms part of an audio-visual installation created with visual artist Zak Norman and filmmaker Charlie Miller.
The project, created in partnership with In Place of War, as part of their EarthSonic programme, was inspired by a trip the Northern Irish duo took to Greenland in 2023, where they met local artists and communities and learned about some of the issues they faced.
Norman and Miller followed that thread and travelled to indigenous communities in Greenland, Sweden, Norway, and Canada to explore issues like marginalisation, displacement of communities, and the environmental impact of climate change.
The immersive film they have created captures the seismic shifts Arctic communities have experienced and the resulting erosion of ancient cultures, languages, traditions and more.
For the soundtrack, Bicep worked closely with indigenous vocalists, including Katarina Barruk, Andachan, Sebastian Enequist (from Sound of the Damned), Tarrak, Nuija, Niilas and Silla.
The A/V installation will get its world premiere at Outernet London on 3rd July followed by the soundtrack release on 25th July via Ninja Tune/Earthsonic, and a global tour.
Bicep started the year with three new releases, ‘CHROMA 008 TANGZ’ with ELIZA, ‘CHROMA 009 KR36’ with Kehina, which they released under their DOVE alias, and ‘CHROMA 010 BRILLO’.
