TSC Behind The Decks | Carl Haze

Carl Haze is a techno DJ/Producer from Vienna, Austria. He has released on labels such as PP Music Unlimited, Hexagon Recordings, Suah Records and IAMT, just to name a few. Read below to learn more about him and hear the mix he recorded for us.

Hi Carl and thanks for being our next guest! Where are we catching you right now and what you have been up to lately?
Hi guys! Thanks for having me. You are catching me at my home studio in Vienna, Austria. I just finished the premaster of my new track ‘White Substance’. It will be out on Spartaque’s label IAMT.

How did you get into electronic music? What was the first record you heard that really made you pursue a career as a DJ/Producer?
I discovered electronic music at 14 when I started going out to clubs. The first record I fell in love with was ‘Swedish House Mafia – One (Your Name)’. I was fascinated by the energy that this track gave me.

You are based in Vienna, Austria. How is the scene there? Have you thought about moving to Amsterdam or Berlin?
We have some nice techno clubs. My favourites are Vienna City Beach Club, Grelle Forelle, Pratersauna and Horst & Hannelore. Electronic music has grown since I moved here 4 years ago. Yes, I’ve thought about moving to Berlin or Amsterdam. I visit Amsterdam every year and I love this city.

From your sets we’ve heard you play tracks by artists such as Patrice Baumel, Adriatique, Recondite, Henrik Schwarz and Radio Slave just to name a few. What is the element or sound a track needs to have in order to be included in your rekordbox playlist?
The key element for me is a good melody with a catchy synth, I love arpeggios. A track must take you on a journey.

You have released on Trippy Code, Hexagon Recordings and your latest track ‘Dream To Infinity’ was released on Suah Records. Could you tell us more about the production process behind it? What hardware and software was used?
First, I took a good reference track for the idea. Then I tried to create the same vibe. Some of the tools I used were UAD Arrow, Logic Pro X, Splice, Arturia V Collection, Waves Plugins, Diva Synth.

Which are your favourite weapons in the studio at the moment?
These would be my new pair of Adam A77X and my analog synths Moog Sub 37 and MAM MB33.

What can we expect from Carl Haze by the end of 2019?
Many more releases and gigs. I have new releases coming out soon on Reload Black Label and IAMT.

Thank you for the interview Carl Haze!
