Did you know that the biggest lake in Central Europe is located in Hungary? Even better, on that precise lake there is an annual festival for Electronic Music! One which should definitely be on your calendar of summer festivals for Electronic Music. It is the Balaton Sound. The name derives from the Lake Balaton, known in Hungary as – Hungarian Sea. The festival takes place on the west part of the town Zamardi, which is the southern bank of Lake Balaton.
Balaton Sound was co-created by the Sziget Festival organizers back in 2007. Ever since it has quickly established itself as one of the biggest festivals for Electronic Music in Europe. Known for a diverse and quality line-up, with mixture of famous DJ’s, supplemented by giving stage to new artists. Whether you listen to the mainstream EDM or like to vibe to Deep House, Minimal and Pure Techno, or maybe enjoy a Live Electronic Music acts, the Balaton Sound Festival has it all and it will make you move all night long!
History and growth of Balaton Sound
Between 12th and the 15th of July, 2007 the first edition of the Balaton Festival took place. The festival quickly spotted the public interest, because of its one of a kind location by the lake, being held during the wonderful Hungarian summer, and with 20 hour of Non-stop music vibrations. The 2008 edition of the festival gathered over 88 000 visitors. Within the 3rd edition of the festival, in 2009 a staggering 94 000 visitors came to Balaton Sound! Balaton Sound continues to grow and gain popularity year after year. Tickets are usually sold-out prior to the event. Tickets don’t even last before they go on sale to the official ticket vendors. The year 2012 was special for the Balaton Sound, because all the hard work, and efforts put into making this festival paid off. The festival won the 2012 European Festivals Award for Best Medium-Sized Festival.
Music acts at Balaton Sound
The organizers focus on a diverse mixture between mainstream Dance music, together with classic House, Underground music acts, and usually one famous Rap artist. Some of the names from the 2014 edition of the festival are Armin van Buuren, Deep Dish, Disclosure, Felix da Housecat, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Maya Jane Coles, Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Roni Size, Rudimental, Sven Vath, Steve Angello and many other. What To Expect At Balaton Sound 2016
Inside the festival there are various stages (5 to be precise) offering diverse Electronic Music, to suit the taste of the visitors. The Main stage of Balaton Sound itself can gather up to 50 000 people at once. There are several other stages including the H&M stage, Meex Snowattack stage and other. In order to make everybody feel comfortable, the sponsors of the festival set up and create luxurious lounge and chill-out areas, for visitors to relax and enjoy their time on hammocks, bean bags, while having their favorite drink. In addition there are plenty of other places to relax by the lake, including bars, pubs, restaurants, food corners and fun areas.

HOW TO GET TO BALATON SOUND
If you reside in Europe it is fairly easy to find a cheap flight to Budapest, Hungary as it is a popular tourist destination. Ferenc Liszt International Airport is the country’s main international airport, serving many Global destinations. If you choose to camp in the Balaton Sound Camp-site, there are several options for you to choose from.
Basic Camping ticket– price 17€ per person. Located about 15-20min from the main entrance of the festival. Includes shower facilities for visitors to use.
VIP Camping ticket- price 17€ per person. Located on the festival’s grounds.
VIP Tent For 2– price 50€. Tent is suitable for 2 people.
VIP Wooden House For 4– price 360€. Wooden house suitable for 4 people. Located in the VIP Camp-site.
Caravan Camping– price 100€ per caravan. Located on the festival’s grounds.
